DAY 1: SASAMÓN

The two municipalities situated in the southern part of this region are Sasamón y Castrojeriz. Both of them have an interesting history because they were important villages in the Roman Empire (Sasamón) and the Middle Ages (Castrojeriz).

Let´s start these two days of activities by doing one of the paths that crosses the municipality of Sasamon: the PRC-BU 194-Alto de Castarreño. This path begins in Olmillos de Sasamon and goes through the villages of Yudego and Villandiego. In its final part, you can climb till the Alto del Castarreño, where the views are really beautiful.

To have lunch you can choose between the restaurants that are located in Sasamón or Olmillos. In the afternoon, we propose that you rent a bicycle in the BTT center of Sasamón and do the route BTT 12-Camino de la Dehesa..

Dinner and lodging can be booked in one of the establishments of this village, or in Melgar.

DAY 2: CASTROJERIZ

A sense of religious faith can be felt everywhere in Castrojeriz, because of the Road to Santiago. We invite you to discover this village by doing part of the road. You can go from the district of San Antón till the end of the Royal Street. This part is only 4 km. long. If you want to go further, you have to climb the “cuesta de Mostelares” and go on till Puente Fitero, on the border with the province of Palencia. The whole path is 12 km. long.

You will have a different choice, though, as there is another interesting path you can do: the PRC-BU 187-El Cueto that crosses a moor identified by the same name.

After having lunch in one of the restaurants of this village, we recommend that you rent a bicycle in the BTT center and do the route BTT 4-Los Casares that goes to the north of the municipality.

DAY 1: AMAYA AND VILLADIEGO

The northern part of the Cuatro Villas of Amaya belongs to two different municipalities: Sotregudo, where the villages of Amaya, Puentes and Peones are located, and Villadiego..

This area is special because it has a particular type of mountainous relief called “loras”. It is, without any doubt, one of the best places to enjoy nature.

To begin with, we propose that you climb the mythic Peña Amaya by the path PRC-BU 200. From the top of the hill the views are spectacular. Or, if you prefer, you can do the path PRC-BU 201 that goes from Amaya till the ruins of the village of Puentes.

In any case, if you are interested in ornithology, you can bring your binoculars and watch the birds that live in this mountain, particularly vultures. Peña Amaya is declared as an Area of Special Protection for Birds (ZEPA).

To have lunch you can choose one of the restaurants of Villadiego. Later, you can rent a bicycle in the BTT center and do the route BTT 13-Las Riberas del Odra or the route BTT 15-Los Llanos de Villadiego. Both of them cross several villages of this municipality.

Dinner and lodging can be booked in one of the restaurants of this village or in Melgar.

DAY 2: MELGAR DE FERNAMENTAL

To start your day, it will be a good idea to rent a bicycle in the BTT center and do the route BTT 8-La Mota that goes to the north of the municipality. You will realise the importance of the Castilla Channel in this area by sailing in the boat San Carlos de Abanades.

To have lunch, there are several restaurants in Melgar. They will offer you different dishes made with products of the vegetable gardens of this area.

Before returning home, you can do the path PRC-BU 191-Los Navegantes.
