Descripción

Castrojeriz lives by and for the Way of St. James. Its medieval structure, with a long main street that is two kilometers long, is the typical structure of a village crossed by this road. Two kilometers before Castrojeriz, pilgrims can see the ruins of San Antón convent. The monks cured in their hospital the illness called “the sacred fire”.

In the Manzano district, pilgrims can also visit the Collegiate Church of Nuestra Señora. Afterwards, they have to take the Royal Street to cross the village to the river Odra and the hill of Mostelares. In the past, seven hospitals used to attend pilgrims, poor and sick people. Nowadays, just the ruins are still standing.

However, several monuments are still present in this beautiful village and they are located by the Way of St. James: the Church of Santo Domingo, with its plateresque portal, the Main Square, a typical arcaded square, and the Church of San Juan, with an interesting cloister of the fourteenth century.
