Descripción

This religious building was erected with the consent of the bishop of Burgos, Don Luis de Acuña, in the centre of the town, during the middle of the fifteenth century, in a place where it was once the old fortress of San Miguel. The convent’s church is Gothic in its design and has a Latin cross floor plan, with three naves and two chancels with rib vaults. Inside, it is worth seeing the altarpiece at the high altar devoted to San Miguel and the Asunción as well as the tombs of the Santa Cruz. In this very convent, which is now occupied by nuns from San Ildefonso convent in Burgos, Santa Teresa (Saint Theresa) could lodge on her way back from Burgos to Palencia.
