Descripción

Ruins can be beautiful. Ivy and vegetation cover the remains of the old convent’s church of San Francisco. Yet, one can still see a series of pointed arches and rib vaults from the original Franciscan convent, built in the fourteenth century, of sober Gothic style. This place was burned during the Spanish War of independence and later vacated in the so-called “desamortización” (ecclesiastical confiscations). The area was then turned into a local cemetery until 1889. It is located on the lower part of the site, in a place that pilgrims who passed through used to call “Camino de los franceses” (French way).
