Descripción

Built thanks to the Queen Berenguela in the thirteenth century, the ancient Collegiate Church of el Manzano, or Almazán, is a huge building with parts of different periods. There is a first phase between the Romanesque and Gothic art with different elements such as the tower or the beautiful ribbed vaults. Others, such as the Chapel of the Manzano Virgin, the crypt, a new apse, part of the tower, the sacristy and the choir, belong to the eighteenth century.

Inside the church, the altarpiece must be mentioned because it has some paintings of Antonio Rafael Mengs such as the Annunciation. The altarpiece of the Chapel of the Manzano Virgin is baroque and the sculpture of the Virgin is another interesting work of art carved in stone in the thirteenth century.

It was declared as a Historical Monument in 1974. Nowadays, it is a Sacred Art museum with several liturgical objects and works of art. Also worthy of mention is a painting of Bartolomé Carducho about San Jerónimo, and the Baptism of Christ, painted by Mateo Cerezo, the young.
